Falls from height and on the same level are among the main risks and account for nearly one third of workplace accidents, after manual handling.
A fall from height can occur during machine maintenance in industry, on scaffolding in construction, or simply when climbing a ladder, or even on a stepladder.
Slips, trips, missteps, loss of balance on a flat surface… same-level falls happen on a flat or inclined surface, on a sidewalk or a step. In half of the cases, same-level falls are caused by floor conditions, notably defects (holes, curb edges, steps, ice, spilled oil…).

Each year, 150,000 workplace accidents are related to a fall.
The average duration of work stoppages is 58 days, and in the case of a fall it rises to 80 days (excluding construction).
